Start your review. I have used Markel to insure three different boats over the last number of years. Unfortunately, I have had two claims - one partially my fault as I lost control of my powerboat in unexpected strong currents and the second from a partial sinking of a 23 foot sailboat from most likely a failed stuffing box. In both instances, they responded within hours, sent a qualified adjuster to the scene and took care of everything needed.
Their claims examiners have been friendly and professional and did what was necessary to deal with the situation. Invoices, etc. were paid promptly. I do not know of anything that was overlooked - their assistance and advice was superb and the adjusters they hired first rate and highly competent. They have earned their five star rating.

This was the worst insurance company experience I have ever had. My boat was damaged in heavy weather and they denied the claim. They were slow to respond and difficult to get ahold of throughout the process. Now they've cancelled me as a result of loss history even though they never paid anything out. These are bad people for sure. Avoid doing business with them if you can.
