The Flathead Farm Mutual Insurance Company was established in 1907 to understand the requirements of the rural population of Flathead and surrounding counties. Chet Ellingson became director in 1961. At that time there were 779 members. Chet Ellingson retired in 2001. Today's Flathead Farm Mutual insurers over 5300 members in Western Montana.


Settle Agency provided all lines of insurance coverage for Flathead, Lake, Lincoln and Sanders County residents, specializing in writing insurance for farms, home and individual autos. In April of 1998, the agency was purchased by Elizabeth A. Story, a long-time employee who formed Settle Agency.
