Hartland Insurance Group is one of the largest independent insurance agencies in Michigan. The company was founded by Ray Elliott in 1964, and the Michigan Benefit Plans agency was acquired in 1972. Michael Coffey, Hartland's president and CEO, is the son of the founder of Michigan Benefit Plans, Patrick J. Coffey.
