In 1923, Ray (R.J.) Schwarz founded Schwarz Insurance Agency in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin. He ran the agency from his home until 1970, when the 350 Prairie Street location was built. In the 1950s, R.J.'s sons, Don Schwarz and Bob Schwarz, both joined the agency after college and continued to head the agency after Ray's death in the late 1970s.

1958 - Bob Schwarz joins the agency with his father Ray and brother Don until his retirement in 1993. 1970 - Schwarz Insurance moves its home office to downtown Prairie du Sac, near the beautiful Wisconsin River. 1994 - Schwarz purchases several M&I Agencies, eventually condensing their four locations into one location in Marshfield.
