Although TWIA is not a state agency, many of our business rules are mandated by the Texas Legislature. Providing TWIA policyholders with alternative options for wind and hail insurance in the private market. Our purpose is to provide windstorm and hail insurance in the Texas seacoast. TWIA is governed by Chapter 2210 of the Insurance Code (Chapter 2210).

To obtain or continue windstorm and hail coverage through the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA), property must meet certain requirements established by the Texas Legislature. These requirements are outlined in Texas Insurance Code Chapter 2210. Commercial: Commercial buildings, business personal property, townhouses and condominiums.
Rates

TWIA rates determine the amount of premium charged to each TWIA policyholder. Adequate rates help ensure TWIA can meet its financial obligations. Rates are set by the TWIA Board of Directors and subject to review by the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI). Premiums are calculated based on standard rating factors, including amount of insurance, type of construction, deductible amount, and any optional additional coverages.

If you have insurance policies with Texas Windstorm Insurance Association and Texas FAIR Plan Association, you can use Claims Center to report and manage claims with both. Policyholders have one year from the date the property was damaged to report a TWIA claim. After receiving all the requested information from the policyholder, TWIA has 60 days to investigate and notify the policyholder if it will accept or reject the claim.
